Avon Schools

The Fowler's Corner School/ Burleigh's Corner School is on the corner of Henty Road and Route 15. Originally a log school, it was replaced by a brick building, which was destroyed by fire. The present frame building was built in 1906 and is now a residence.

Schools From 1951-Present


1959 - The Jr.- Sr. High School was built. It is now the Middle School for grades 5 and 6. 





1961 - On October 27th, the Elementary School was destroyed by fire while school was in session. The fire destroyed two classrooms, offices, teacher’s lounge, band room, art room, audio visual room, nurse’s office, psychologist’s office, speech office, vocal music room, cafeteria, library, gymnasium, auditorium, storage rooms, and girl scout room. In addition, five classrooms and two dressing rooms were damaged by water.

1961-1963 - Elementary classes were held in the two wings in the rear of the burned school. Kindergarten classes were held at the Central Presbyterian Church. First through sixth grades were held in the High School homemaking room.

1964 - Avon’s Elementary School was built at the rear of the burned school.

1969 - The new Jr.- Sr. High School was built and connected to the 1959 building. Grades 4 through 6 took over a wing of the 1959 building.

1990 - Primary School built for kindergarten through third grade. The front of the 1964 building and the two wings of the 1926 building were then torn down. The playground was installed.

2001 -  A new gym and a wing of classrooms for seventh and eighth grades were added.
