Schools From 1901-1950
1907 - Avon High School was built on the south
side of Clinton Street at a cost of $40,000. The builder was Gus
Miller, an Avonite. Mr. Reuben Wallace was the principal until
1918.
1926 - Two wings and a gymnasium were added. Both
wings were burned in the fire of 1961.
1929 - Mr. James Green became principal for the
next 14 years.
1936 - Two wings were added to the back of the
school. These were saved from the fire in 1961.
1943 - Mr. Victor Scroger became principal for 3
years. During this time the twelve local school districts located
in Avon became centralized.
1946 - Mr. Alvin Dunbar became the principal for
the next 20 years.
1948 - Avon High School became a junior and
senior high school.
